Four Year Training - Year 3
Year Three - Subtle Dharma

In year three the emphasis of the exploration shifts to transpersonal realms of the imaginal, the archetypal and the symbolic. During this year, students will explore existential and psychospiritual experience through images, symbols, visualisations and dreams. This enquiry will be supported both by western psychology and philosophy and by meditational practices and iconography from spiritual traditions. We will draw from iconography, mantra, visualisation and meditative practice within the context of a psychotherapeutic exploration of the archetypal. This exploration will encompass an enquiry into death, dying and rebirth. The spiritual potentials in this transition that we all must experience will be emphasised. Spiritual insights and imagery from different traditions, will be explored in this context.

The experiences of spiritual emergence and emergency will be a theme which is an essential aspect of this enquiry and will be approached in both a theoretical and practical therapeutic context. Psychiatric categories and their relationship to psychotherapy will also be presented and their relationship to both spiritual emergence and emergency will be explored. These will be explored as extreme positions of the defended psyche, rather than in the context of traditional 'pathologies'. These will be related to both personal and client experience. The Core Process model of group dynamics and psychotherapy is further explored in this year.

During this year students are expected to commence client work under appropriate supervision. Students are required to have completed a part time psychiatric placement of at least six months prior to accepting clients. Psychiatric placements can commence in the second year of training if required.
