The Foundation Course is a pre-requisite for the Four Year Training. Please send for the application form from the Institute. Application for the Professional Training occurs after the successful completion of the Foundation Course. A detailed written application, references and an interview are required as part of the admittance procedure.
Selection Criteria
~ Successful completion of the Foundation Course and foundation course tutor reference.
~ Ability to work at a post graduate level.
~ Prior experience of psychotherapy.
~ A commitment to a contemplative approach to psychotherapy and to your own personal growth and development.
~ Developmental maturity and stability.
~ An understanding of the concept of personal process.
~ The ability to be present for arising personal process.
~ Potential for warmth, caring and compassion in personal interaction and relationship.
~ Ability to learn from life experience.
~ Past experience in working with people.
~ Ability to conceptualise and to communicate.
~ Previous meditative and/or therapeutic experience.
~ Good communication skills.
~ An ability to maintain focused attention.
~ An ability to function co-operatively in a group setting with awareness and sensitivity.
~ Ability to fulfil existing financial and inter- person commitments.
Application Requirements

~ Successful completion of the Foundation Course in Core Process Psychotherapy.
~ Completion of application form including answers to questions set and short essay on main psychotherapeutic approaches.
~ Requirement that the applicant has experienced personal therapy (at least one year of personal therapy prior to entrance into the professional training is required).
~ Submission of a detailed Curriculum Vitae to include details of academic qualifications including prior health care, counselling or psychotherapy trainings and/or equivalent life experience.
~ Details of any previous experience in psychiatry or psychiatric placements.
~ Details of medical and psychiatric history.
~ Details of any criminal convictions.
~ Two references, one from your foundation trainer and one other.
~ Interview with a senior staff member of the Karuna Institute.
~ Acceptance of the Institute's training contract and code of ethics.
~ Deposit paid in full upon being offered a place on the professional training.
Applications will be assessed by the Institute's training committee.
