Course Description:

This seminar pays homage to the inspirational discoveries made by Dr Sutherland and draws on a wealth of insight garnered from my thirty years of clinical practice. The aim is to broaden the spectrum of your practice by refining the core skills of listening, hearing and responding to the impacts of experience on the tidal motions of Primary Respiration; and to fortify your originality, authenticity and creativity as a practitioner in the cranial field.

Our focus will be on Touch, Transmutation and the Dynamic Stillness

Touch is the primary tool of Craniosacral practitioners. Dr. Sutherland frequently talked about “wise, seeing, feeling, thinking, fingers”. With the cultivation of presence and non-judgemental, empathetic listening we evolved a new way of touching in biodynamic practice. This can be distilled into Relational Touch, Diagnostic Touch and Therapeutic Touch. Being alert to the scope of touch brings clarity to sessions and allows you to confidently track beneficial changes in the client’s system.

Transmutation, or change of state, is another favourite term of Dr Sutherland’s. He refers to in connection to the action of liquid light, the fluid within the fluid, which he likened to sheet lightning. With advances in the field of physics, states of matter now include plasma and liquid crystal, both of these are somewhere between solid and liquid and radiate light. Lightning is an example of the plasma state of matter. Dr Sutherland, a virtuoso of palpation, directly experienced a state akin to lightening in the bodies of his clients. We will attempt to follow in his footsteps.

The Dynamic Stillness

The dictionary gives two definitions of the word ‘dynamic’:
1 relating to energy or objects in motion
2 characterized by continuous

We know that big things happen in Dynamic Stillness. In this seminar we will delve into the dynamic events taking place ‘beneath’ the stillness - the instantaneous transmutation of bound tissues and fluids into liquid light, a state of flux and continuous change which is endemic to health.

Katherine Ukleja:

I have been a practitioner for 30 years and one of a small band of leading international teachers of Craniosacral Therapy for the past 20 years, spreading the biodynamic model across Europe, the US and Australasia. As my understanding of this powerful healing art deepens my passion and esteem for it grows, and I am able to bring ever-greater clarity and accessibility to my teaching and insight to my treatment of people with complex conditions. I am continually awed by the simplicity and eloquence of Primary Respiration.

My entrée into the field of manual medicine was via massage and osteopathy. But it was Craniosacral Therapy that beguiled me. Here was a model that encompassed the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual aspects of the human condition. I knew I had found my vocation, my life’s work.

I gained my cranial qualification at the Karuna Institute under the inspirational guidance of Franklyn Sills, a world leader in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. I then had the privilege of teaching alongside the great man for many years.

My principal fields of expertise are embryology and the blueprint forces that maintain cohesion at the cellular level; the viscera as the seat of emotional intelligence, and aspects of neurology with particular relevance to biodynamic practice, such as the social nervous system, the cranial nerves and enteric network.

In addition to my osteopathic and cranial qualifications I hold diplomas in Remedial Massage, Neuromuscular Technique, Muscle Energy Technique, Applied Kinesiology, Celloid Mineral Therapy, Impact Therapy and Focusing. I also undertook a two-years Prenatal and Birth Training with Ray Castellino.

For me, the biodynamic approach is the most potent way of returning the intricate organism, that is a human being, to the state of ongoing emergence that is original health.
