The Karuna Institute FAQs

What should I bring?

Comfortable indoor and outdoor clothing, to include slippers for inside use and suitable outdoor wear to take advantage of beautiful walks.

We have a laundry service which supplies bedding, so there is no need to bring any sheets/duvet covers/pillowcases. Fresh towels are provided for your use as drying facilities are not available. However, please bring your own personal toiletry items. Please ensure that you bring everything you need with you as we are in a rural area and the nearest shops are a 25 minute drive away. We do have a couple of hairdryers here for your use.

Students bring their own writing implements, notebooks, journals etc.

Do you cater for special dietary requirements?

Karuna offers vegetarian meals. We are able to offer wheat- and dairy-free or vegan alternatives but you must notify us at least 4 weeks in advance of your stay.

Do you have Wifi?

Yes, Wifi is available in the student sitting room.

Do I have to find accommodation throughout the course?

No all of our courses are fully residential. This is one of the great benefits of attending the Karuna Institute – the residential setting deepens the level of training you will receive while being here.

Can I have a single room?

Students share rooms with between one and three other students of the same gender at the Institute. We have some room for those with walking disabilities too. Although sometimes challenging we find that sharing accommodation creates deep levels of friendship as well as allows for the exploration of inter-personal process

Is there disabled access?

We have one ground floor bedroom which is wheelchair accessible. Our seminar room and living, eating areas are also wheelchair accessible.

Do I have to be a Buddhist to attend your courses?

No you don't.
